I have never had so much fun.

    Everyone was so adorable.

I have about a thousand stories.

Right now though, is the after party

Well, more like the after-after party.

    And then the after-after-after party.

I have been promised face paint and a cookie.

    Oh yes. A cookie.

    A cookie.

I feel like I'm twenty-two, except I never did these kinds of things when I was twenty-two.

ETA: And yes, I've seen the papers. I'm dealing with it tomorrow.

The University Gay/Straight Alliance has a float in this weekend's Pride Parade, and they've invited me to invite any Augmented students (and friends!) to join them.

The bonus of being a packrat is that I have a wonderful collection of sign-making supplies stashed away in my office. If anyone would like to come and celebrate Augmented pride, gay pride, or just come for the beer, I'd love to have you along.

Saturday, we'll be gathering at my office and trekking down to the lakeshore to make signs and grill meat and drink beer. My office at UC Chicago, 1PM, down at the shore by 2.

Anyone -- especially Augmented folks -- who want to join us in the parade, contact me privately and we'll get you in the right place at the right time.

Who has two thumbs and just got herself a new swimsuit for Morocco?

Now I need sandals. And SPF400 sunscreen so I don't turn into a charcoal briquette while we're there.

I have to say, I'm so excited. My first ever1 trip out of the country. Well, Canada doesn't really count, does it? My students seem to think it's just America's hat.2

    1 Non-work related
2 Some day I will just make a list of the really terrible things my students say in class. I'm just glad I teach science, and no one has any excuse to spew their politics in my general direction.

I would like to politely request none of my students read this.

I'll leave you a minute or two to go.

    Everyone gone? Really? Good.

Dear god, alcoholic milkshake hangovers are the worst hangovers.

    I... feel kind of sick.

I've tried to fill my mind with an endless loop of Nyan cat and Carameldansen but even that's not working.

I'm going to go mainline My Little Pony cartoons for a while.

Three engineering students were gathered together discussing the possible designers of the human body.

One said, "It was a mechanical engineer. Just look at all the joints."

Another said, "No, it was an electrical engineer. The nervous systems many thousands of electrical connections."

The last said, "Actually it was a civil engineer. Who else would run a toxic waste pipeline through a recreational area?"

ABILITY: Technopathy: Liz has a psychic/mental ability that allows her to sense, connect to, and control electronics and computers with her thoughts. In doing so, she is able to draw information from a machine, set programs in motion, override security codes, and sense the presence of hidden electronics (even artificial intelligence). If she is familiar with the operating system or programming language that the machine is using, she can also reprogram the system or manipulate its settings. This allows her to operate computers at the speed of thought and complete pure computing tasks significantly faster than someone using manual input. This also often gives her access to a wide variety of trivial knowledge, as she likes to note that "any sufficiently fast Googling is indistinguishable from actual knowledge."

This power only works with machines within 50 feet of her, and only with the electrical/computing portions of the machines -- for instance, she could not make the fingers of a robotic hand move, but she could swiftly drop in a subroutine that when run will move them.

Secondary: Animate Object: After the injection, Liz found herself with the ability to go beyond the programming of machines, to move and manipulate electronic devices in ways that went beyond their programming, and even to bring life to mechanical devices without an explicit computer part. The object must have significant amounts of moving parts for her to inhabit it, and they must really be moving parts. (She can not animate a wheel or even a bicycle, but a car, with its electrical system and complex internal combustion motor, is no problem).
